glossary terms

Video Formats - The file type of a video. There are different layers of transmission and storage, each with its own set of formats to choose from. For example mov. specifies a multimedia container file that contains one or more tracks, each of which stores a particular type of data: audio, video, effects or text (e.g. for subtitles)

Streaming - Is when a multimedia file can be played back without being completely downloaded first. Most  files like shareware and software updates that you download off the internet are not streaming data. However, certain audio and video files  like Real Audio and Quicktime documents can be watched while being downloaded because they can be streaming files.

File Compression - Is used to reduce the file size of one or more files. When a file or a group of files is compressed, the resulting archive often takes up 50% to 90% less disk space than the original files. Common types of file compression includes Zip, Gzip, Rar. Each of these compression methods uses a unique aigofithm to compress the data

Aspects Ratios: 4:3, 16:9 - The term is used to describe the dimensions of a display resolution. For examples, a resolution of 800 x 600 has an aspect ratio of 4:3

Frame Rates - In motion pictures, Tv and in computer video displays, the frame rate is the number of frames or images that  are projected displayed per second
